AI-powered monitoring systems to ensure the safety of ports in South Korea

Summary:

By deploying 3D LiDAR solutions and AI-powered monitoring systems, ports in South Korea achieved unprecedented levels of accuracy in detecting and addressing potential security threats, ensuring the safety and efficiency of ports.

Client:

Ports in South Korea

Problem Statement:

Ports in Korea faced challenges with outdated surveillance systems that lacked precision and struggled with environmental factors such as fog, rain, and high traffic. This compromised the security of critical national entry points, leaving them vulnerable to unauthorized access and other risks. The client sought an advanced, reliable solution to improve surveillance accuracy and operational efficiency.

They required a smarter, more precise system to detect and address potential threats with high reliability. Additionally, the port needed a fully automated monitoring solution that minimized false alarms and provided dependable performance under any environmental conditions. False alarms were particularly problematic as they consumed significant resources due to unnecessary responses. Moreover, the new solution had to seamlessly integrate with their current infrastructure.

Results:

  • Achieved over 98% accuracy, with real-time data analysis promising continuous improvements in performance.
  • Ensured integration of the security solution with the existing PTZ camera infrastructure.
  • Ability to maintain high performance even in extremely bright or low light conditions, and in adverse weather like wind or rain.
  • Achieved a significant reduction in false alarms, ensuring more reliable threat detection.
  • Lowered operational costs by minimizing the need for human intervention and enhancing the durability of surveillance systems.

AI Solution Overview:

The port authorities deployed for Quanergy’s LiDAR-powered QORTEX DTC™ (Detection, Tracking, Classification) solution. This system integrated effortlessly with their existing PTZ cameras, providing dependable real-time threat detection across all critical areas and significantly reducing false alarms.

The QORTEX DTC™ solution combines Quanergy’s patented M8 Series LiDAR sensors with advanced AI software, forming a highly intelligent hardware and software platform.

A total of 45 M8 sensors were strategically deployed throughout the facility to continuously monitor the perimeter and identify intrusions. When an intrusion is detected, the system transmits event data to the PTZ cameras, enabling operators to efficiently locate and track threats.

The M8 LiDAR sensors offer a comprehensive 360-degree field of view and operate effectively in any lighting or weather conditions. The QORTEX software leverages 3D perception algorithms to process rich point cloud data, allowing it to detect, track, and classify objects with high precision.

Additionally, the solution included iCent’s iSaver application, an intuitive, AI-powered platform designed to interpret the data collected by QORTEX DTC. This data is presented on a user-friendly dashboard, providing operators with clear, real-time insights at a glance.
